I would like to thank Darlington hospital for referring us to the Rvi so quickly. We came in to ward 21 with our 4 week old daughter after being referred by the GP. On arrival she was examined and reviewed by the consultant. They quickly recognised her as possibly having an immune deficiency and sent non routein blood samples to the RVI.We have since discovered she has scid (severe combined immune disorder) and without early diagnosis and treatment of a bone marrow transplant is life threatening. Due to the rarity of this disorder it is often not diagnosed until the child has contracted viruses that they cannot fight. We have been told that she is the youngest and healthiest baby with scid they have treated and this is mainly down to the knowledge and professionalism shown by the consultants in ward 21. We are only 3 weeks into a long journey that will last months, and cant thank Darlington hospital enough for the start they have given us.
"Thank you!"
