I attended HRI today for an ultrasound scan on my neck. Parking was easy. When I arrived in the main building and was looking at the signs, a volunteer approached me to offer help and they accompanied me to a staircase which led to the ultrasound department. I was about 30 minutes early for my appointment. I'd allowed a lot of time as I wasn't sure if I would be able to find the department easily. After I'd been waiting for about 5 mins, my name was called and I was led into a room to meet the consultant. They said they had arrived early too and thought we might as well make a start. What fantastic customer service! I was back in my car in time to avail myself of the free 45 min parking window! My only very minor suggestion for improvement was that the explanation that the consultant gave me after my scan was not terribly clear, and seemed to assume a degree of knowledge that I didn't have. But they did say "this is nothing to worry about", and as I am seeing my GP for the results of the scan later this week, I thought I could ask the doctor to explain to me rather than take up more of the consultant's time. All in all then, very impressed, and as a NHS employee myself, very proud of such good service at a time when the media seem to be trying to convince everyone that the NHS is on the slide. That certainly wasn't my experience today!
