"Ward 12 superstars"

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital

I have breast cancer and following chemotherapy, the next part of my treatment was surgery. Frankly, I was really terrified, but the team could not have been better in my opinion. The anesthetist was amazing - reassuring, friendly and professional. The surgeon was wonderful too, matter of fact and calm. The Sandbourne Suite team were very polished. I spent a night in Ward 12 and I was so impressed. The team are genuinely lovely and the night staff in particular were so very kind. I am not a good sleeper and a delightful nurse whispered that if I couldn't sleep I could ring for a cup of tea. There were so many other nurses that were so sweet that I wish I could remember all of their names to say thanks. If you are apprehensive about having surgery, this team make it so much less distressing. Just brilliant.

Response from Royal Bournemouth General Hospital

Dear ‘Anonymous’ Such kind words at what must be a very difficult time for you, thank you. It is always rewarding when the staff receive feedback from the patients they treat and I am pleased to hear that all those treating you were able to break through the anxiety and fear you were facing to give you such a positive impression of the hospital. I have shared your comments with those involved in your care and have already received a response from the Head of Nursing for Surgery, “this is lovely feedback. Its comments like this that make it all worthwhile” and I know the ward staff will feel the same. I thank you for noting how reassuring, friendly and professional the teams were and also that they were attentive to your individual needs with the offer of a cup of tea in the middle of the night should you need it. I wish you a speedy recovery from the surgery and hope the chemotherapy treatment works well for you. Regards Sue Mellor Head of Patient Engagement
