"Grateful for daughter's care on Ward 28"

About: Leicester General Hospital / General surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was admitted to be medically assessed for suspected appendicitis.

On arrival it was evident that the ward was extremely busy, however every members of staff was polite and had a smile. My daughter was assessed by a doctor promptly and was allowed to have me with her whilst undergoing a blood test, which she gets very anxious about.

The Deputy sister was very professional and as she was unable to obtain any bloods with the first attempt, asked for a doctor to perform the second attempt rather than upset her any further. The doctor was very professional and I rather felt sorry for him as my daughter becomes very distressed during these procedures.

My daughter was then admitted to the ward until the blood tests came back, which thankfully showed that this was in fact gastroenteritis. Despite the clinical needs of the other patients in a very busy ward the staff were at all times professional and nothing was too much trouble.

A credit to the very stretched NHS and a hospital and ward I would recommend. Thank you to all the staff.

Dear goferswife,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your daugther's experience on Ward 28 with us. Each of our hospitals are very busy at the moment, as I'm sure you;'ve seen in the press over the past year or so.

We have shared your comments with the matron and sister for Ward 28 to share with the wider team.
