"Needs a total overhaul"

About: South Tyneside District Hospital

The maternity department have policies that do not take into account current NICE guidelines. Consultants make decisions about birth without taking your opinions into account and when you do realise you have options you then have to face criticisms during your pregnancy. Instead of doing their best for you (the patient) they do what's easier for them and when you do finally complain, you get more stress from them when they respond. Then you find out what's in the notes are totally different from what they told you and that's your fault not theirs! Info is given out if you have a c section on what you can or can't do including lifting only the weight of your baby for a certain amount of time and how much walking/exercise you can do yet the staff cheerfully wave you off watching you struggle carrying bags out the ward, down the lift and all the way along the corridor to the maternity exit even though you shouldn't be doing it but have no choice. Only a couple of staff were helpful and caring over the course of my pregnancy and labour, others seemed not to care or were not interested in helping.
