"Excellent patient care!"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

I returned from Sierra Leone on the 15th February 2015 after working in a Ebola Treatment Centre as a paramedic and healthcare worker. I was deployed by UK-Med for a 5 week tour of duty. On returning to the UK, everything was fine but that night I developed a temperature amongst other symptoms. Following vast discussions with Public Health England, it was decided that I would be admitted to LRI Infectious Disease department for blood tests to be sent to Porton Down to rule out Ebola. I was met in the car park by a doctor and nurse, both in full Personal Protective Equipment. This was surreal as it was now my turn to be on the patient side. They were both extremely professional but most of all reassuring! They immediately put my mind at rest. They led me to a negative pressure room where blood tests were taken and observations done. 24 hours later the blood tests were returned as negative and I was allowed home. I want to thank all the staff that dealt with my care and well being whilst there, they acted professionally and they were extremely proficient with their standard operating procedures whilst in PPE and I am very grateful for their care. Thank you very much to all involved.

Mr Sears Thank you for taking the time to write such a positive comment with regard to the care you received whilst on the Infectious Diseases Unit at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. There has been a huge effort within this organisation to support both the public and staff should they be faced with such a situation and it is really heartening for our staff to hear comments like this. I have communicated your review widely to the multi-disciplinary teams that worked together in this instance. On their behalf thank you once again. Sincerely Liz Collins Clinical Lead Infection Prevention
