"crisis team"

About: West Park Hospital

Don't know where to begin. My daughter was admitted into Maple Ward and once discharged was under the crisis team of which have a slow response. This week she had a relapse the crisis team were phoned took ages to get to her. I had been working nights and stayed up talking to her on the phone she was extremely distressed. Once they came it was decided she would come home for a bit and she would go under the Northallerton crisis team. Unfortunately she ran out of medication which was supposed to be arranged i would presume but no one would give her any. Crisis team were supposed to visit her phoned and said they would have to cancel as car broke down, could not believed what I was hearing. Phoned Darlington team told us to go to walk in centre so we did to no good they wouldn't prescribe medication. I phoned Northallerton team and a member of staff already new she had been to walk in centre. An appointment was made for her at Northallerton hospital to see doctors they prescribed medication. In all the service my daughter has had is poor, to see her struggle is heart breaking and it seems no one cares what happens to her, it is shocking. I work and have had to go without sleep and watch my daughter suffer so much .

Thank you for sharing your experience and we apologise for not replying earlier. We needed to talk to our colleagues to find out what happened. We agree that this wasn’t a good level of care. Whilst it is appropriate that teams direct individuals to relevant out of hours services for medication, we are disappointed to hear that this needed to be done in an emergency as we would have hoped this could have been something that the teams could have planned for with your daughter and, as such, prevented. We have raised your issues with the crisis teams involved to improve how we support people like your daughter in situations like this. If you’d be willing to speak to us directly about how we can do this please contact our patient liaison service (PALS) on freephone 0800 052 0219.
