"Cashier Treatment"

About: Tameside General Hospital

I'am a full time young carer for my partner and have found the cashier at the hospital in Hartshead south very disrespectful and undermining. On several visits to the hospital for our appointments now, they have made it difficult and even prevented us from claiming our travel expensive back. Thou we have always took the least expensive transport to the hospital and claim the right benefits to be eligible for claiming travel expensive back. Therefore making my roll as a carer more difficult then it already is, I would like these issue's to be looked into and for myself to be contacted to discuss and informed of the outcome of theses issue's. I also believe i'm not the only person with these concern's

Response from Tameside General Hospital

We are really sorry you have had to raise these concerns and you found the cashiers to be disrespectful and undermining. All staff know to be courteous, understanding and professional at all times. The cashiers do need to be very thorough when dealing with any claim for a refund under the ‘Healthcare Travel Cost Scheme (HTCS) for the cost of travelling to hospital. Our patients are at the heart of everything and therefore thank you for taking the time to inform me of your concerns. Please be assured that I will discuss your complaint with all the team. John Goodenough Director of Nursing ’Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved? Please contact John Goodenough, Director of Nursing at john.goodenough@tgh.nhs.uk
