"Flaunden Ward Feb 2015"

About: Watford General Hospital

My father is currently on Flaunden ward following emergency bowel surgery. Having come from intensive care where the nursing care was excellent, brings Flaunden staff into stark contrast. Nurses show no interest in patients. Procedures such as stoma care are sloppy to the extreme leading to my fathers skin being damaged totally unnecessarily. When his bag leaked he was left covered in his own excrement until finally a nurse headed his pleas for assistance and throw a change of bed clothes at him, and left him to get on with it. Bearing in mind he is attached to a drip and can not physically move from the bed. He wasn't even offered a way to wash his hands. And yet another example, a passing Chaplin noticed that his cannula had come out and called a nurse over who took one look and shrugged 'I was gonna take it out today anyway' and just walked off again. He has been on the ward only two days, but is likely to be there for at least another two weeks. Leaving his family extremely concerned for his well being on such a hostile and uncaring ward.
