"Awful response to getting second surgery..."

About: Worthing Hospital

My father has cataract in both eyes, in September he had one eye operated on and was told by the hospital due to the severity on the cataract and the fact the he is now blind due to the condition he would get the other eye operation within 6 weeks. 6 Months have now passed. I have made dozens of phone calls within the last month, I get various answers, from "we don't know anything about him needing the other eye doing" to "you need two referrals one per eye" 3 weeks ago the GP sent another referral but when I phoned today no one knows anything about it and once again I get past from pillar to post and no results. I am at an utter loss on how to get my Dad a blind pensioner an operation. Please help me!

We are so sorry about the poor communication you have experienced. The Ophthalmology Service has experienced some problems due to a hugely increased volume of referrals caused by changes to the referral criteria. We are working really hard to address this increased workload and are aware that some patients have received poor service. We would love to help you and your father, but this site is anonymous and therefore we don't have your details. You could contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service at Worthing Hospital, and they will advise you and inform the relevant manager for Ophthalmology so that your concerns can be looked into. The email address is palsworthing@wsht.nhs.uk. I do hope this is helpful.
