My mother in law went to Whipps Cross Hospital, as she had fallen and broken her hip. She is 75 and also has dementia, we informed the hospital of this. To my dismay they seem to have no idea on how to work and approach anyone with this disability. My mother in law was in for a week, the only people who were of any use or who new what was actually going on in the hospital was a student nurse and the physiotherapists (she was on Sage ward). I was so shocked by the lack of care that I was glad when they eventually sent her to a rehabilitation hospital, even though it is over an hours drive away from where we live. This process was also filled with problems as nobody knew what time she was being moved and therefore we were unable to visit on the day as we feared missing her. It became so late that she was not transferred at all and had to then stay in over the weekend. I cannot stress how unprofessional the staff were. They called my mother in law by her bed number and not her name. This is not what I call caring or compassionate.
