"My mother's treatment at Royal Gwent "

About: Royal Gwent Hospital

(as a relative),

My mother went into hospital fully capable of looking after herself she lived on her own after my father died after this she went into hospital to have a colostomy. The treatment then in my opinion, was not very good.

After another 3 years passed she started to have problems around the colostomy area. She went into hospital able bodied after just 2 weeks in the Royal Gwent she was bed ridden. Her drinks & her bell were put out of reach and as she was in a ward on her own unless someone was there impossible for her to reach. She eventually died in November 2008.

I feel her treatment while she was in there was nothing short of disgraceful, her tablets were over the floor where she had dropped them and could not reach them. I do not think that the nurses nursed my mother with dignity and respect.

We believe a nurse on one of the wards my mother was on dropped her in a chair the one day; the nursing staff did not tell us about this, another patient told us. Other than that we would have had no idea what had happened and then I was told by a nurse not to talk to this patient as she caused problems.

I wrote a letter of complaint to the complaints coordinator over two months ago and I am still awaiting a reply. I have warned my 3 children not to let me go into the royal Gwent Hospital for anything.

In hind sight I should have brought my mother home and in my opinion, she would probably still be alive today. She would have been treated with the dignity and respect she deserved
