"Appointment Waiting Times For Audiology"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat

(as the patient),

I have been waiting 6 months for a first appointment with the Audiology Dept at Crosshouse hospital. I have phoned on many occasions to be told they are running behind with their appointments, I have also asked for any cancellations as this matter is very urgent. My hearing is very bad and I am no further forward in knowing when I will be seen to move this matter forward. Can't believe this is taking so long

Dear ahmc,

I am really sorry you have waited such a long time for your appointment; I can only imagine how much this impacts on you, your family and your life. I am afraid the news is not what you hope to hear. This issue has been raised before and the service is very aware of the problem. The recruitment process for two new Audiologists is nearly finalized and there are also additional clinics out of hours to increase the available appointment spaces, but it will still take time to get to where we need to be.

You have already informed the service that you are able to take a ‘short-notice’ appointment. I wonder if it is worth emailing in or calling the service just to check they have you highlighted for a ‘short-notice’ appointment and they have your current phone number. By calling 01292 617175 and ask to be put through to Audiology or email:- audiology.service@nhs.net they can check this for you.

I have spoken to the Head of Audiology Service and he too is sorry your wait has been so long. Many thanks for highlighting this to us, we both hope your appointment is in the immediate future and you get the help you need.

Best wishes,
