"I was told I was "the difference between mad and bad""
Posted by incurablegal (as ),
I was an in patient in 1997/1998. I was one of the last to be discharged from the hospital.
It was an absolute nightmare. I was already in a very bad way, considering I was in there but it felt like the staff did all they could to make it worse. I was on 16 pills a day for over ten months. I was told I was "the difference between mad and bad" by one nurse. While on bedrest, I witnessed other patients tie ligatures round their necks. In my opinion staff were well aware of this, but didn't seem to react until the person began to have seizures. One staff nurse, one auxilliary and the charge nurse actually appeared to care about the patients. The rest seemed not to. On sunday mornings, I saw staff lying down for rests on empty patient beds. They seemed to enjoy the power they had over extremely vulnerable women (who ranged from 16-60+).
