"Staff and facilities were great"

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I am really impressed by the maternity services at Calderdale Royal hospital. When I went into labour we went to the birth centre and were seen straight away by a lovely midwife. We had our own room where I could just relax whilst labour started getting more intense. When labour started properly we were moved into a bigger room which had a water pool facility. I was in there about 7 hours with the midwife letting my husband and I take the lead, but always there to offer help such as getting drinks, helping with back massage and so on.

Unfortunately labour didn't go to plan and I got moved up to the labour ward but when we got there a lovely midwife took the lead and helped deliver a healthy boy! We both got to do skin to skin which was great before I went down for surgery.

When in the labour ward whilst little one and I got to know each other, we had lots of support breast feeding and finally got there. The nurses were really helpful, from refreshments to helping with first toilet trips.

I had such a positive experience despite the fact my labour didn't quite go to plan. The staff and facilities were great. Thank you

The visiting hours could be improved.

Response from Linda Thomas, Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust

We are delighted to hear the birth of your son was such a positive experience, which is of course as it should be. The staff involved will be really grateful to you for providing feedback. We are sorry to hear everything didn't go quite to plan, but clearly this did not have a negative effect on your whole wonderful experience. We hope you, your son and your family are doing well.

Lastly, we are sorry to hear of your disappointment with the visiting hours, but we are sure you will appreciate it is very difficult to meet everyone's needs on visiting.
