I was admitted to RD&E Wonford on the 19th of January. This was first time I had been in hospital for over 50 years and the first time I was there to undergo major surgery,so I was understandably nervous. My admission was handled brilliantly and all the staff I met were professional, friendly and very reassuring. Both the consultants who were going to be involved in operation introduced themselves and the anaesthetist also talked me through what was going to happen when I arrived in theatre. When the time came to go down to the operating theatre the nurse who took me down did her best to reassure me. After my surgery I woke up in recovery where once again the staff were fantastic and my consultant and the anaesthetist were also on hand to reassure me everything had gone to plan. I was then transferred to Dart Ward where I stayed until I was discharged. During my stay on this ward I was well looked after by an amazing team and I have already written to the matron expressing my thanks. I cannot praise the staff of this hospital enough or indeed the skill of the surgeons. My dignity was obviously a high priority and I was treated with respect by everyone. What for me was a very traumatic experience was made so much easier because of the professionalism, humour and care of all the staff I met. While I have no desire to revisit the hospital, if I had to I would be much more reassured after my experience on this occasion. So a big thank you to everyone involved in my care.
"First rate care."
