"Ask staff before doing anything to a patient"

About: Ayr Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

I have a condition called hidradenitis suppurativa and was advised by my gp and general surgeon I had saw a few weeks before (to arrange a planned op) the next time it flared up to go straight to a&e so I could be admitted to have the area operated on. I had a very lovely student doctor who took down all the info needed and had a look at the wounds as he had never treated someone with the condition and asked lots of questions as he knew most doctors don't know about it.

However! The surgeon that was there was incredibly rude called it "just a skin condition" when in actual fact it is now linked to autoimmune disorders, refused to admit me and actually squeezed and poked the wounds till I had blood running down me. No one else will understand how incredibly painful this condition is unless they have it so you could only imagine how much pain I was in while he did! If I Knew the doctor was going to do it I would've politely told them to leave it. The nurse and student doctor looked very uncomfortable as I had told them how painful the condition before the surgeon came in.

In future I would advise that your staff ask before doing anything to a patient!

Dear Ashaidaus

Hello my name is Derek

I'm responding on behalf of Ann Gow, Nurse Director who is on leave this week.

I'm sorry to hear of your mixed experience at Ayr A&E Dept.

I'd like to be able to feedback your comments and concerns to the individuals involved as this is not the experience we want anyone to have when in contact with our services.

Could you please contact Eunice (info below) and let her know when this happened and we can directly feedback to the team concerned.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on Patient Opinion to us, I appreciate you do so and helping us to continually improve the experience of people using our services.

Thank you
