"My son gets excited to come to clinic"

About: Royal Hospital for Sick Children (Yorkhill) / Dermatology

(as the patient),

We were transferred over to yorkhill as an emergency and were met on ward 4b by 3 smiling faces, Nick, Angela and a lovely support worker x. my son had burns to his body and they quickly and efficiently assessed and dressed his wounds causing him minimum distress. We were welcomed to the ward and given clear instruction on what would be happening to our son whilst in their care. I felt safe, I knew my son was safe, I trusted the medical team. They were all brilliant.

I was distraught about my sons accident and whilst caring for my son they managed to somehow have the time to care and support me too, they did not have to do this, they were amazing. We had surgery, and it was first class, this hospital thinks of everything, my baby skipped into theatre happy to be with the people who I entrusted his care too.

All went well, I got my baby boy, fixed by Mr McGill and his team. I have no words strong enough to express my deep gratitude to these people who spend there lives making others better, I'm in awe of you all.

I have special appreciation for Angela on the ward she is a total star, thank you for all your wise words and support you gave me during the worst week of my life. Jim in the ward was my boys hero, always paying attention to the little things to make the kids and parents happy, thanks Jim. Also the play worker was great, always something to help pass the day on the ward, thank you also for all your attention to my boy x even the clerical staff on this busy ward always met you with a smile.

thank you x I cannot believe the lengths your ward goes to to make the children happy, dog therapy, clown doctors, play assistant, movie night, any request for food the kitchen will sort, book people, brilliant playroom and friendly staff, I've never seen anything like it, it's class again.

Finally, there was Sr. Sharon Ramsay, she was our angel, what a nurse! I hope the Trust know how lucky they are to have people like her on site, she got me through the worst week of my life, she was patient, knowledgeable, compassionate and just lovely! Watching her care for my son was easy, she explained everything, talked me through my worries and provided continual support, we think she's amazing! ! ! My son gets excited to come to clinic to see Sharon and her lovely play workers and cries when we have to leave, despite being there to have nasty wounds dressed they make him forget about it with their kindness, toys and smiles. I honestly cannot begin to express my gratitude for your care delivery to my precious boy, we will never forget what and how each and everyone of you cared for him, we will be forever indebted to you x thank you from the bottom of our hearts x

I work in a small team in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde which seeks to involve patients and carers in the work of the NHS. The biggest part of my role is in managing feedback projects across the Board area, one of which is Patient Opinion. It is my job to give our patients and carers the opportunity to give us feedback, and to make sure that this is passed to the right people to help us improve the services we provide.

Dear Nate,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write in such detail about you and your son's experiences at Yorkhill. What really struck me is how clearly you can tell how much the staff on the ward meant to you both through the way that you write about your time at the hospital. It is fantastic to see that not only was your son well cared for, but that you were given such fantastic support and looked after as well.

I have passed your comments on to the service who I know are all so pleased to receive such positive feedback and I know that they also would like to add their own words of thanks for your kind words.

I am so pleased that such a difficult time for you both has had such a positive outcome, and I hope that your wee boy is making a very fast recovery.

Best Wishes,

Lorna
