"I was roughly treated & came out of hospital more ill than when I went in"

About: Southport & Formby District General Hospital

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Southport DGH in early November 2008, aged 67, suffering from MS; acute sciatica; pneumonia; urinary tract infection. I could walk only with the aid of a stick, my balance being very poor. My Falls Assessment, described me as "Fully Mobile", which I feel was incorrect. It did not appear that the staff had read my file properly. I believe that he medication prescribed and administered to me was inappropriate, causing undesirable side effects, some of which are extant. The nursing staff I saw did not live up to the standard to which the Trust lays claim. From what I saw calls for help from bed-bound patients were rarely answered. When I asked the lady in the bed next to mine why no-one complained about this to the senior staff, she said it was because they feared retaliation. I was roughly treated myself, and physically assaulted by one nurse in particular.I came out of that hospital far more ill than when I went in. I have, via my GP, requested the ambulance services never to take me to that hospital again. I made a formal complaint to the hospital. It took several weeks even to obtain copies of my medical records from them. It took them a further 3 months to respond to my complaints. I was on Ward 7B. I would like "funky" who has also written her story on this page, to let it be known which ward she was on!!!
