"Upset at how we were treated"

About: Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust / Inpatient mental health care

(as the patient),

I was discharged from the Cavell Centre three weeks ago. This is the second time I have been in the centre. The first time was last year, there were things that weren’t right and I spoke to a member of staff about them.

This time, I’m really upset at how we were treated – my husband is my witness. I was denied my basic human rights while I was in the Centre.

I was not allowed to go to the toilet when I needed to go. Last year we were given key fobs so we could go to our rooms and use the toilets whenever we needed to. This time we weren’t given a fob – we had to rely on the staff to let us go. If they were in meetings or having a chat we had to wait until they had finished and they would then let us go.

I had sepsis whilst I was there, I was drinking a lot of water, my temperature was 43 and I desperately needed the toilet, I was begging them to let me go but they wouldn’t. I’d waited 5 hours for a doctor on the ward to see me about the sepsis, in the end a member of staff took me across the carpark to the Peterborough A&E where I was put on a drip. I was in hospital for two days. In A&E and the Women’s Health unit.
