"Some of my bad experiences at Royal Surrey County Hospital"

About: Royal Surrey County Hospital / Gynaecology Royal Surrey County Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I have two stories about Royal Surrey.

Firstly, the biopsy which was forgotten during a laparoscopy, but amazingly I was told it was all clear only to discover three weeks later that they hadn't done a biopsy.

Then I was told there had been nothing to biopsy on my vulva - fortunately I was referred to an gynaecological oncologist at Hammersmoth Hospital who saw me on the Thursday and operated the next tuesday to remove cancerous cells from my vulva.

The second story concerns a hip replacement. I was treated appallingly as were the others (bar one) on my ward - the fire door to the bathroom/toilet area slammed on my hip three days after the op knocking me sideways I was in excrutiating pain - as usual no nurses were around and a cleaner got a nurse who told me to be 'more careful' and just left me.

After my operation I received no physiotherapy at all, even after numerous phone calls to the hospital and the local physiotherapy unit week after week. Two years on I still have heard nothing!

I felt the surgeon couldn't have cared less. I wonder how much more mobile I would be if i had had any follow up care.

These are two of the many bad experiences I have had at this hospital - out of many operations there (over 20) I have had eight bad experiences.
