I have just found this page and I am so glad I have. I was admitted to ACU on 22nd after visiting Pontefract A & E. The staff in ACU need medals! For a young (25), normally fit and healthy person to end up so poorly was frustrating to both me and my family and the staff in ACU were brilliant in their nursing care and keeping us informed about what was going on - even ringing my Mum when they were so busy and not really getting a break on a 12 hour shift. When I became short of breath during a physio session they quickly calmed me down and always tried to brighten up my day. Even though I was so poorly they always welcomed my visitors; people I really needed to get me through a difficult time.The care on here is worth five stars. Anyway I think I stayed here for 8 days with bilateral pneumonia with respiratory failure. When I was moved to the ward I received good care. Yes we didn't see the nurses as much but someone was always around to help and it's not the fault of nursing staff that they had a lot of patients to look after. It was a bit of a shock moving from ACU to the ward as you had to be more independent but it made me more determined to do things for myself. Thank you to all the staff. Katie Beedle
