"Car park problems"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

Over the past month (january2015) I have attended the R B I on two occasions between 1345. and 1430 . There would appear to be a major problem with the car park as the roads surrounding the hospital were totally gridlocked . On the first Occasion I was forced to drop off my elderly relative and make my way home as it was impossible to park . My relative was forced to call a taxi in order for her to return to her home. The second occasion was just as bad with traffic backup to the M65 motorway and to the junction of Haslingden Rd and Bank Lane, in light of the recent news that a new GP unit is to open on the same site as the hospital . I hope that consideration is being given to extending the car park and also making provisions for a further access road to ease the flow on and off the site. If nothing is done to elevate the problem then I am of the opinion the the situation will only get worse and more appointments will be missed or delayed.

Dear Mr Taylor Many thanks for your comment, and apologies for the slight delay in responding I wanted to contact our estates and facilities department to understand how we are working to resolve the congestion and car parking concerns that you raised in your comment; and have just received their response to share with you. "The trust is working with local council planners to assist in alleviating the delays on Haslingden Road. At present there are ongoing road works on Haslingden road which will in the long term assist in improving the infrastructure of the road network. The trust is also working with the planners to look at adding additional parking within the trust grounds. These discussions are at an early stage but will hopefully assist in reducing the delays when they come to fruition." I do appreciate that this will not immediately resolve the issue for yourself and your relative but please be assured that the Trust is working to try and resolve the issue; and your comment will provide further impetus to this. If you would like to talk through your concerns further with one of our Patient Experience team you can either contact me (Wendy Stobbs) on 01254 734471/ 01254 733704 or email me on wendy.stobbs@elht.nhs.uk. Or if you would like to share your experience in confidence with an independent organisation please contact Healthwatch BwD on 01254 504985 or info@healthwatchblackburnwithdarwen.co.uk Or if you prefer you can discuss further any concerns you may have about our services with our East Lancashire Hospitals Trust Customer Relations team on 01254 733700 or complaints@elht.nhs.uk who can advise you of your options in raising these concerns further.
