"My experience at the diabetic clinic"

About: Northern General Hospital / Diabetic medicine

(as the patient),

I go to the diabetic clinic at the Northern General Hospital once every six months. It’s ok but I have to take the morning or afternoon off work. I just can’t go in my dinner hours because I just know from experience that I am always seen late by my doctor. It’s always at least an hour on average. I don’t park my car in the car park any more just in case the ticket runs out. I think the staff are nice and helpful if I need any help. Recently I have had a problem with my local doctors only giving me one box of blood testing strips at a time. So I’ve had to reorder them about every two weeks because I am taking my blood tests to keep my blood levels better balanced. But on three times my strips haven’t been ready because this doctor said that I didn’t need them yet. So I’ve to wait 30 minutes to get it sorted out. My diabetic doctor is writing them a letter.

Thank you for sharing your concern with us. I am a Practice Manager who sits on the Board of the Hallam and South PBC Consortia (PBC Consortia are a group of General Practices who group together to try and improve patient services). We constantly strive to improve services to our patients in both the hospitals and GP practices. We are currently looking at Diabetic Services in the city and your comments are very helpful to us in that process.

Thank you.
