"Very poor nursing"

I was admitted for a parotidectomy and the staff in pre-op and theatre were fantastic. The nursing staff on the ward I was placed on afterwards were however appalling. The registrar requested the nurses in recovery to re-vac my drain as this was not working efficiently, I overheard them discussing this and saying they would leave it to the staff on the ward as its not as easy as it used to be and they do more. When transferred to ward I asked the nurse if someone would do this for me as I was concerned it wasn't working right and was told she would do it later - this never happened and drain was removed the following day having never been fixed. The medicine trolley was unlocked and the door and drawers left open whilst the only nurse on the ward left the room for at least twenty minutes. A pre-filled syringe containing a blood thinning medication was placed on my table for two hours before a nurse came back and very abruptly informed me "right theatre were going to ring me and inform me whether you should be given this medication, they haven't phoned so I'm just going to give it to you" I expressed concern about this as I had discussions with the anaesthetist prior to the operation about recent test results I had which showed my blood did not clot correctly. I asked the nurse if she could contact theatre herself just to double check before giving me the injection only to be told "no, they said they would ring, they haven't therefore I'm going to presume its fine to give it to you" and promptly stabbed it into my arm. This led to me feeling very worried about the effect it may have on my health. I also witnessed a complete lack of dignity for other patients as a catheter was removed with only one curtain pulled round leaving the whole of the left hand side of the bed exposed, patients weights being shouted across the ward, patients who were being sick having to ask for curtains to be closed around them, a girl who thought she was going to faint telling a nurse who just smiled at her and carried on with paperwork meaning I had to get up after being given morpheine to pass the girl her sick bowl as the nurse stood two feet away did not appear to care. Upon getting upset during the early hours of the morning as I could not close my eye due to facial paralysis following my operation and asking if this was normal I was told "you'll be fine" and the nurse promptly disappeared again. I was told the following day my eye should have been taped shut during the night to prevent it drying out but no one had noticed my eye. I had told them - no one cared. All in all the complete lack of care, dignity shown which led to my stay in hospital leaving me feeling vulnerable, worried and upset. I would not wish to stay at Aintree hospital again and would certainly advise others to avoid it also.
