We anxiously arrived after a stalling home birth 20hrs after the waters had broken and were met with friendly, efficient, knowledgeable staff who were sensitive and cared. We ended up doing all of the things we had hoped to avoid, petherdine, inducement by gel then drip, epidural, catheter and finally cesarean. All stages were our decision with great balanced advice to inform them. Quite scary at times, but we always felt supported. The midwives and surgeon were outstanding and super efficient. We then moved to the folkestone ward where the excellent care continued. There are 4 beds per room, so not too much sleep, but excellent advice and support, especially with breastfeeding. Perhaps not quite enough staff at night, only 3 for the whole ward. Both areas are as good as they can be with the resources they have and are an example of how good the nhs can be. The end result is our beautiful daughter and the essential tools we need to look after her.
