"My mother has recently left Herm Ward after a stay..."

My mother has recently left Herm Ward after a stay of 6 months. Before she went to the hospital, having her admitted had been the 'worse case scenario'. Despite the severity of her dementia we had tried to look after her at home and had viewed the Alderney as a place to be avoided at all costs. We could not have been more wrong. My mother was treated with respect, dignity and kindness throughout. The quality of the care within the ward is second to none and the health care assistants are outstanding. The staff-patient ratio is extremely high, which means that there is always a fresh, patient carer on hand to help out and relieve stress. My mother was never left alone and she became genuinely fond of the staff around her. We visited on a daily basis and viewed this treatment consistently. Even when she was moved to Poole General for 3 days, she had a health care assistant from the ward with her at all times. Obviously, the purpose of being on the ward is stabilise if necessary with medication. It would have been useful to have been given the information about this without requesting, so that we were quite clear about the drugs that my mother was receiving. This is the only minor reservation I can express.
