"Had to attend A + E with my 3year old son on..."

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital

Had to attend A + E with my 3year old son on Saturday evening after he bumped his head. He was very distressed on arrival, but the receptionists were so kind to him trying to cheer him up and talking to him about his toy dinosaur (they almost made me cry!). The little childrens waiting room was lovely and having CBeebies on was a lovely touch and helped to calm him down. The nurse we saw was also very kind and friendly and he enjoyed the new toys she showed him! We were seen and discharged within half hour and were so grateful for such kind and speedy service.

Dear Anonymous Many thanks for taking the time to share your experience of A&E with us, no easy task in itself with a poorly 3 year old. I hope he is feeling much better now and back to happily playing with his dinosaurs. I am pleased to hear that you found the service to be quick and efficient and that the staff were kind, caring and sensitive to you and your sons worries and fears as it can be a very distressing time for both. It is good to know that the children’s waiting room was just what was needed to help calm your son and CBeebies was the distraction he needed to pass the short time he had to wait before being seen by the nurse. Please know that I will pass on your high praise to the department matron and her team as they always welcome feedback from their patients. Once again thank you for your comments and I wish you both well for the future Sue Mellor Head of Patient Engagement
