"I now lead a more normal life"

I was due to have gallstones removed by key hole surgery during a day visit to the QMC in October 2008. A heart problem was identified so I was kept in overnight for observation and subsequent investigation into the nature of the heart problem. The doctors decided that an aortic stern and valve needed replacing and this was arranged for May. The operation took place in May 2009 as planned. There has been an excellent outcome thanks to the skills of the surgeons and the superb after care of specialist nurses in the Cardiac unit at Nottingham City Hospital. I left the hospital one week after the operation and have made a speedy recovery and now feel much better. After 6 weeks I was enjoying regular 2 mile walks and have since broadened my activities. Now (after 8 weeks) I lead a more normal life with its quality improving almost daily.

The only minor frustration (although it was a major one on the day) was being told I could leave hospital at 10.30am and having to wait until well gone 5.00pm for my medication. After all this time there was an error with it and having been moved through a series of moves further out of circulation I actually did not feel very well by my actual time of departure. This seems to be a common occurrence.
