"shoulder operation cancelled 3 times"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

My shoulder operation has been cancelled 3 times. Last time on the 9.1.15 I at least managed to get to the hospital only to be sent home as there were no POCU beds. I am still waiting for a new appointment. I am unhappy because I have Myasthenia Gravis and Rheumatoid Arthritis and my MG meds have had to be reduced in order to have surgery and this affecting my daily living a lot and also I have been prescribed a new drug to try and help my RA but I cant start this until after the operation. I just want to get the surgery over so I can get back to my normal meds and start the new ones. I cant use my right are much at all now.

Dear Carol Many thanks for your feedback on your experience of our Orthopaedics service at Royal Blackburn Hospital, and thank-you for taking the time to do so. I would like to be able to make sure your concerns about the number of times your operation has been cancelled are passed onto the correct team and ward manager concerned, to be able to do this I'd really appreciate it if you could get in touch with me on the details below. I will then be able to chase this up with them directly to try and understand if it was the recent pressures on the hospital over the winter period which have caused the cancellations, or something else. Could you possibly get in touch with me? I am very sorry to hear that your recent experience with us wasn't what you expected as we always strive to deliver safe, personal & effective care. If you would like to talk through your visit to us with one of our Patient Experience team so we can understand the bits of your experience that made this such a poor experience of care for you we would really value this so that we can try to improve things for every patient visiting our hospitals and services. You can either contact me (Wendy Stobbs) on 01254 734471/ 01254 733704 or email me on wendy.stobbs@elht.nhs.uk Or if you would like to share your experience in confidence with an independent organisation please contact Healthwatch BwD on 01254 504985 or info@healthwatchblackburnwithdarwen.co.uk Or if you prefer you can discuss further any concerns you may have about our services with our East Lancashire Hospitals Trust Customer Relations team on 01254 733700 or complaints@elht.nhs.uk who can advise you of your options in raising these concerns further. Many thanks again for taking the time to comment, Wendy Stobbs, Senior Patient Experience Facilitator
