"Tracheotomy Procedure - ENT"

Very good care for my father prior to his tracheotomy, the nurses spoke to us in terms of the operation, effects, aftercare etc. and once decided the operation was scheduled and performed quickly. However my only complaint comes with the aftercare. Firstly when my father was sent home he was given a faulty tube which prevented him breathing properly causing a panic on his first day at home. Not that this is directly the hospitals fault but are these tubes not checked? Especially as their purpose is to aid people with breathing. Secondly the tube was inserted incorrectly and as a result has caused a nasty infection and left him in a lot of pain. The district nurse who changed the dressing at home noticed this and raised the concern with the hospital. He was then taken back in the next day and had to wait in the patient room for 9 hours to get a bed. The tube has now been changed for the 3rd time in a week soon to be 4th, which as you can imagine is very painful for him. Mistakes do happen and I understand that but it seems like nothing is going as planned with the procedure and its completely knocked the confidence out of the patient. Overall the staff are very caring and friendly, the premises is clean and patients are fed very well. Not sure if we have just had a bad experience but I feel certain things should have been picked up and rectified before he was allowed home. Now feel we are back to square 1 after 5 weeks.
