"Care cannot be faulted"

About: Arrowe Park Hospital

i was recently admitted to the gynaecology unit for what the consultant described as a 'tricky' hysterectomy. From start to finish the care and compassion i received from all staff, clinical and non clinical, was excellent. The atmosphere within the gynaecology day case ward was relaxed, it was bright and clean and the nurses took the time to listen to their patients without rushing them along. Theatre staff were lovely and certainly put me at ease, as I was very anxious about having a general. Recovery staff were also great and took good care of me whilst I was there. What a great bunch of people work on Ward 54. I cannot thank them enough. Extremely helpful, willing to discuss any issues with patients and help those in discomfort. They simply couldn't do enough even though the ward was full and they were rushed off their feet. Absolutely everyone I came into contact with, from the porters to the doctors, showed upmost respect for patients and each other. The ward was cleaned thoroughly every day and beds were disinfected as they were changed. My 2 consultants provided excellent care both prior to the operation and afterwards. They explained everything and answered any questions I had, no matter how trivial they seemed. I would really like to thank the female anaesthetist, it's thanks to her last minute reassurance and way she spoke to me that I had the courage to go ahead with the operation. It's a shame that, even after major surgery, there's some pressure on patients to go home the following day. I didn't feel ready as I didn't have access to the type of pain relief needed at home. Eventually I was allowed to stay an extra night. I understand the pressure on beds and that patients recover better at home but there should be flexibility for an extra night for those who just don't feel well enough. The only downside of the whole experience was the food. I wasn't expecting anything fancy and I know that it's difficult to feed the masses on a pound a day but it was pretty inedible, except for tea and toast. That said, would I recmmend the gynaecology unit at Arrowe Park to family and friends? Without hesitation, first class.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. We are extremely grateful that you have taken the time to provide this feedback. Our staff work hard to try to ensure that a patient’s experience whilst at the hospital is as pleasant and comfortable as possible, and they are always considerably heartened and motivated on learning how much their efforts have been appreciated. We have passed your kind sentiments to staff in the Gynaecology Department.
