About: Homerton University Hospital

I have mixed feelings about the EPAU department. Following my first missed miscarriage in September I received amazing care. Everyone expressed sympathy for my loss and everything was very clearly explained to me. This made the whole thing much easier to cope with. I was particularly impressed by a nurse. Following my second miscarriage this week I was less impressed. The receptionist had failed to write our appointment in so no-one had my notes. I was treated well by the sonographer and ok by the clinical nurse specialist but less well by the regular nurse. The nurse who saw me after my scan did not say they were sorry for my loss, did not explain what the miscarriage might feel like or what might happen next and did not talk to me about what might have caused this to happen. I didn't really understand what the scan had shown and was given a piece of paper with lots of medical terms, none of which were explained. Having spent time in outpatients and A&E, my general feeling is Hommerton Hospital is full of amazing doctors and specialists and is well-run, but the nurses often lack empathy and people-skills which would make the biggest difference to my experience there. I feel very let down.
