"Poor elderly care"

About: George Eliot Hospital - Acute Services / General medicine

(as a relative),

My elderly great-aunt had the misfortune to be admitted into Nuneaton hospital, and not only did staff not help her with her food and just left her to try and manage which was impossible due to having no feeling in her hands, they also ignored her pleas for help with aiding her to the toilet, when they did eventually bring the commode almost half an hour later by that time it was too late and on another occasion they brought a commode over that they hadn't cleaned and that was still wet with someone else's urine.

They had not helped wash her or even cleaned her teeth in all the time that she was there. Thankfully she was transferred to a far better hospital where the attitude of the staff was completely opposite and where she was finally treated as a person with dignity rather than an object that was in the way as she was in Nuneaton.

The situation you describe is very concerning and we would welcome the opportunity to discuss these isues with your Great Aunt, if she is well enough or her next of kin. The contact number is 024 76153568. I look forward to hearing from you. Regards Christine Longstaff on behalf of the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust
