"Grateful beyond words"

About: Broomfield Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

I have just read 'thirsty on Felsted Ward' on here and had to respond because this story - in my opinion - could not be further from the truth as I have a critically ill relative on this ward as I write and I am well aware of the patient and family behind this posting. I would go so far as to describe it as defamatory and Before I start, dear reader, let me offer you the following facts to make up your own mind:

1. There is no wifi on Felsted Ward

2. The patient who has allegedly posted this is an elderly Spanish woman with a limited grasp of English, who is asleep much of the time/ unconscious

3. I don't know any 90 year olds who even understand how the Internet works - or even know what a website is - let alone set up an account validated by an email address and post stuff. If they do, they should be running Google or Facebook.

Please feel free to draw your own conclusions at this point but anyway let's get down to business. I cannot speak highly enough of the care my relative has received - since admission she has received the very best care available from every member of staff on the ward. If I was paying for this (and I thank God we're not) money could not buy anything better than what is being delivered 24 hours a day - as every person who works on the ward has done and is doing everything possible for my relative.

Not only are they giving the very best compassionate and caring nursing care at this unbearably difficult time for us all, their unwavering professionalism is helping to hold us together as a family. They are nursing us all and making this easier to bear as our loved one is dying - a kind word, a hug, a cup of tea, a tissue and the endless kindness and love for our relative. They are caring for us all and I am grateful beyond words that we are blessed with this experience so we can look back to this to know that everyone did everything for us as a family facing death together. Words are not enough at a time like this but I just had to balance the picture of the ward and its amazing staff and can't allow this untruth to go unchallenged and uncorrected. Thank you Felsted xxx
