"Post operative care poor"

About: Leeds Dental Hospital

I had a routine impacted 3rd molar extraction at the dental hospital on 16th January 2015 at 4pm and was discharged without a follow up appointment. Everything seemed fine for a few days until I developed a deep ache in my jaw and pain around the stitches. I returned to oral surgery on the morning of 20th January and was treated for dry socket and again discharged without follow up. It is now 22nd January and I am once again in pain. I have been unable to get an answer when I try to phone the dental hospital and so I am now going to visit my own dentist for further treatment. I am disappointed in the aftercare provided by the dental hospital and feel that I should have been given better aftercare advice. I was never warned of the possibility of dry socket despite having many predisposing factors for it and not given accurate care advice. I was told to rinse with salt water the following day, but not told to wait 24hours after surgery. I was also told that there was no need for follow up after treatment for dry socket, yet all the information I have found suggests repeated follow up for dressing changes is required. Overall my initial treatment was carried out professionally and very well, but follow up and accurate advice left a lot to be desired.
