"First Class care at Torbay Hospital"

I was very impressed with the treatment I received when struck down with unknown stomach pains at the end of November. I had collapsed at home and was brought to A and E on 28th November in the morning. The consultants in A and E spent the entire day carrying out test after test to try and establish what was wrong. After various considerations it was finally realised that I had infected gallstones resulting in pancreatitis. At 5.30 pm an Endoscopy was carried out with the staff all staying late to perform this and the remains of my gallstones were removed. Every person who treated me in A and E was incredibly kind and pleasant, from the reception staff to the receiving nurse, from the consultants and nursing staff who patiently went through every possibility of what was wrong, and the porters who took me for the various tests. I was admitted that night to Cromie Ward. The staff on Cromie Ward were also just fantastic. I was kept in for further surgery to remove my gallbladder (Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy) on Tuesday 2nd December. In total I remained on Cromie Ward for a week. Everyone from the catering staff to the nurses, senior nurses, cleaners and helpers were just amazing. I must make special mention of the comedian Nurse who cheered us all up with his daily jokes and two others who were endlessly cheerful and friendly. The surgeon and his team were brilliant, explaining every detail of what was happening and taking time to make sure that the procedure was fully understood by both myself and my husband. The after care too was superb and another member of staff took time to explain what to do should any difficulties arise and made sure I had the right paperwork to go home with. All in all a fantastic experience at Torbay
