"A&E Overwhelmed"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

I witnessed first hand the problems in A&E. People up the corridors with no place to go. My friend was looked after well and we were sent home after developing breathing problems. The nurse gave some medicine with oxygen to breathe in while we waited for the doctor, which was good and helped my friend loads. Staff worked really hard but there were obviously not enough of them to look after the patients that were everywhere. If A&E’s are so busy why is it that the hospital are not putting extra staff in to work

Thank you for taking the time to write this review and for your positive comment regarding staff working really hard. As is the case across the country at the moment, the A&E department has experienced times of immense pressure within recent weeks. To help us manage this, staff are deployed from other areas of the hospital on a needs basis and our staffing model for the A&E is regularly reviewed to ensure that staffing meets the needs of the service. We would like to wish your friend a speedy recovery.
