"Reorganise the signs please"

About: Cockermouth Hospital

Attended the physiotherapy department. The physio was absolutely first class. She really knew her stuff and we agreed a treatment plan together, leaving an overall impression of someone who clearly knew their subject and put it across well - very impressed. The lower ratings given are for the abysmal layout of the signage within the building and the attitude of some of the other staff. Walking in the main entrance from the car park I expected to find a reception, or at least a 'welcome' board with a diagram of the layout of the hospital or signs to the relevant departments. I could find nothing to indicate any directions to the physiotherapy department. I wandered around and finally saw a reception desk on the floor below (why not by the main entrance?). The reception staff gave me the directions, unfortunately they were incorrect. I asked some other member of staff who was walking past but they didn't know the way. I finally managed to get someone from the pharmacy to direct me most of the way, but not once did I see any sign to the waiting area. Even in the waiting area it is not clear that you are in the correct place. Along the way, I asked another member of staff why there were no signs to the physiotherapy department - they too just shrugged and said 'not my area'.
