I had my baby in Oct 2014 (my second baby) and have to admit the delivery of her was abysmal. The midwife who cared for me that evening did not listen to me, firstly by forcing a sweep on me when my husband was out of the room and secondly, by not taking my statement of this is how I laboured with my first baby seriously and sending me home for me to return within 2 hrs, 6cm dialated and very panicked over what was happening. I had told this so called midwife that I didn't want a sweep as I thought I was labouring naturally and I had a sweep booked for a few days later, her words were, "I can do it, I have done it." Excuse me, but the term midwife means "to be with woman" and when a woman says no to a sweep it means just that no. To then patronise her and tell her she isn't in labour even though contractions are quite clearly present is disgraceful. I had invested a lot of time during my pregnancy preparing for the birth which included hypnobirthing, which all skills were rendered useless because I was put in a situation were I could not use them as I wasn't given the opportunity to spend time with a midwife who wanted to listen to me and work with me for the best birthing experience possible. To add complete salt to the wounds, when I was labouring, and it happened so quickly, she asked an assistant to find her student because I was labouring so beautifully, I can tell you now, there was nothing beautiful about it. It was quick, scary and I was not in control. My husband needed to act as midwifery assistant when our daughter was born, because the RM didn't have enough hands to cut cord or clean up! Whilst I appreciate some second labours are quick, this midwife and her disgusting attitude ruined what should have been a lovely experience. I could never be happy having another child at St. Peters and would never recommend them to anyone.
