Mixed feelings about the care my husband & son received in the Kingston A&E department. On one hand I thought the doctors and nurses were excellent, thorough and the outcome very satisfactory. On the other hand I felt there were cleanliness & infection control issues. For example, We were taken to "cubicle 10" from reception to await Drs review. There was no bed or chair in there & blood splashes on wall & floor. Then we were permitted to take chairs from other 'used' cubicles. Next, Another patient arrived and entered our tiny cubicle, he ended up having bloods taken right next to us. It was the same phlebotomist who took my husbands bloods, she did not wear gloves & did not steriswab the site. Lastly, on an earlier visit my poorly 4 year old was ushered into an unmade cubicle, where a bowl of someone else's vomit lay on the side next to us. The infection control issues were very upsetting because you already feel vulnerable in A&E and don't want to feel put at risk in anyway. Please please address the hygiene practices within the department. The doctors and nurses themselves were fantastic, triage nurses exceptional -and we thank them wholeheartedly for excellent care.
