"Fantastic Birth Centre and Neonatal Ward"

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital

I chose the birth centre at the hospital to have my first baby, I went in to the centre 2 days before my due date as I thought labour had begun, I was checked over and was told I was only 1/2cm dilated so had a long way to go. I then went in again the day after as pain had increased but again was checked and was informed still that I was some way off. The midwifes were all lovely and friendly and very caring they gave me paracetamol and other medication, they informed me they would only last 4 hours so I went home and 4 hours later the feelings started to come back. My waters broke at 8 o'clock we rang the hospital and the woman on the phone was lovely we arrived at the hospital and everything started to move very quickly I was taken into a room with a water bath and said I woild like to use it i my labour started progressing quickly and she was born in 4 hours. The most beautiful baby! We had one complications as she swolled some water during the labour and had to be ressuetated. The doctors were there within seconds and helped by baby girl. They were so quick to react and it paid off she cried! They informed me they were going to take her to the neonatal special care unit to monitor her and make sure all the water was out. They were so informative and calming at a distressing time. They took my daughter and kept informing us of her progress. We spent the first night without her but was made increasingly comfortable by the midwife's who had advice for healing etc and great tips they also brought us numerous cups of teas and toast to keep our energy up. We had a sleepless anxious night. To cut down on all details. We went to the ward the next morning and they said she had improved but was not able to go home as she needed 48, hours of antibiotics which then increased to be 5 days of antibiotics. The ward put both me and my partner up for the entire time we were at the hospital and were absolutley amazing I couldn't fault anything the birth centre midwife's did or the nurses and doctors on the ward. They were absolutley fantastic and I really don't understand the bad reviews because of the great work they did for me and my daughter. We left the hospital after 5 days and we are doing fabulous now she is almost 10 weeks and is the most beautiful happy healthy baby and I can't fault anyone or anything at the hospital! Thankyou Calderdale for making a happy but stressful time calming and giving me some fantastic advice and help. This hospital is fab! And just one more little note. Hospital food is normally horrible but the food was great Thanks to everyone on both teams again for everything thanks again.
