"Visit to A&E in the early hours of Saturday..."

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

I was taken to A&E by ambulance on Saturday morning about 5:45 am. I was in severe pain, and right from the initial 999 call I and my wife were treated extremely well. The ambulance arrived while my wife was still on the phone and we were in the A&E within 15 minutes. I was seen straight away, no delays, despite the fact that all the bay's were in use. Within 1 hour I received, pain relief, a CT Scan and a diagnosis of renal colic with the presence of some stones in my right kidney. I was given drugs to take home and advice on what to do next. Transport was arranged and I was back home about 4 hours after admission. All the staff, from the porter who wheeled me about, to the nurse, radiologist and doctor who saw me to the transport nurse who saw me safely onto the ambulance home.treated me with respect, kindness and humour. I am 68 years old and not in good health, registered disabled and going in to A&E as an emergency was daunting for me, but I need not have been concerned. These days all you here on TV or in the newspapers lead you to think that you will not be welcome and shouldn't be there. Well, if anyone reads this fear not! Our NHS service is something we can all be proud of, the mark of a civilised society. So well done RSCH and all the people I came into contact with when I was at my lowest, in severe pain, confused and scared.
