"Erith Urgent Care Centre"

About: Erith & District Hospital

I had to visit the Urgent Care Centre (UCC) from out of Borough for a badly sprained ankle that wasn't getting any better after one week. Having seen the long waiting times at my local (Essex) A&E and as i work locally in Bexleyheath, I attended the UCC. No waiting other than for a few minutes to be seen by a warm and welcoming Doctor who had a comfortable informality that made the assessment productive and pleasant. I was referred for an X-Ray which was a short stroll across the car park however despite being 'walking wounded' was told I had to stand outside the door for 10 minutes as the service did not open until 8.30am. Poor customer service here from a less than welcoming radiographer who appeared to be less than interested in my needs - a seat in the stark depressing waiting room rather than standing on a bad ankle would have been both appropriate and appreciated. X-Ray done (very functionally rather than with empathy by the same radiographer), i was again seen in a very few minutes by the Doctor who had to 'pop next door' to assess the X-Ray as it appears that the two serviecs are not able to electronically communicate. It owudl have been both informative and appropriate to have had the chance to see the X-Rays themselves - an issue which needs to be addressed so that they are available in the consulting rooms. All in all an excellent service from the Urgent Care Centre but a 'can do a lot better' from the X-Ray department and team.

Response from Erith & District Hospital

Thank you for your review and I am pleased that you had such a good experience within our Urgent Care. I can only apologise for the service you received in the X Ray department and will pass it on to the Trust that supply that Service, from the Urgent Care Centre point of view we will definitely look to change our protocol of sending people down to X Ray before opening times so that patients can remain in our waiting room rather waiting outside the door. We are working hard with the other Trust to resolve the IT issues so that our clinicians can review the XRays from the consulting rooms. I hope your ankle is felling better Debbie Maxted, Regional Manager Urgent Care, Hurley Group
