"extremly good care but not happy with the way the drugs were dispensed upon release"

About: Victoria Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a relative),

My mother was recently in the Victoria hospital. Both she and I were extremely happy with the care and have only one issue which I feel could be improved very quickly and without much expense.

My 81 year hold mother came into hospital and was already on various drugs. Upon release she was given other drugs and all original drugs also returned to her. It was not at all clear to us what she had to take and in the end had to phone up the ward again for clarification. I really do feel that the drugs should be dispensed in a far clearer way with a sheet of typed information which gives a summary of what drugs she should now be on and when these should be taken. I also think that any now irrelavant drugs should not be handed back to the patient.

I would stress that the care was excellent but I do feel this is quite a big issue that could be so easily addressed

Dear mandy1965

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback concerning your mother's recent hospital stay. I was pleased to hear that the care she received was excellent; however disappointed to hear of the issue regarding her medications on discharge.

You make a very valid point and I will now share your post with the pharmacist to seek his view on this. It would also be helpful if you were able to identify the ward and even better if your mother would be willing to let us look at the specifics of her case so that we can make sure we learn from this fully. If your mother is willing to have her details shared then please call me directly on 01592 648069.

Many thanks for taking the time to write

Louise Ewing
