"Poor care"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

(as a relative),

A very good friend of mine, I would add lifelong friend, was admitted to ward C33. So far, he has,

1) Contracted conjunctivitis, which, to date remains unsuccessfully treated.

2) His teeth were broken in some procedure, ( not notified)

3) He now cannot speak, through another procedure carried out.

4 He now has a chest infection, which prevents further surgery, so I believe, as no definite information seems to be forth coming

5) He remained "nil by mouth" for some four days due to promised scans, which were never asked for until my intervention.

6) He has lost so much weight he can barely stand unaided.

Also 3-4 days after he was admitted he has a severe bedsore the size of a hand which in my view is down to poor nursing care.

How much more do you require this elderly man to endure before someone, somewhere takes his case in hand and finally does something 'concrete' about his rapidly deterioration, or, is this a new way of reducing the patient workload!

Many thanks for you feedback relating to the Royal Victoria Infirmary and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, we are very sorry to hear what has happened to your friend while being cared for at the various Departments.

Unfortunately it is unclear which elements relate to each Hospital/Department and it would be difficult to reply without the personal details of the patient involved. Please could you contact our Patient Relations Department on 0191 2231 382 or patient.relations@nuth.nhs.uk so we can discuss this further, look into your concerns and address any outstanding issues.

Hello to the Royal Victoria Infirmary and The Queen Elizabeth Hospitals, unfortunately, the Tags were reversed, the comments were intended as the experience of my relative and friend under the "care" of Sunderland General Hospital.

My experiences at both the Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary for cataract removal were, indeed very pleasant, if you can call a visit to hospital pleasant, my experience at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead was again a pleasing and extremely successful outcome.

I will, in due course relate that experience. I do hope I have not caused too much consternation to the Hospitals miss tagged, the story is intended to outline "care" at Sunderland General Hospital.

Yours

Calvert
