"Worst hospital i have attended"

About: Watford General Hospital

1 & 1/2 hour wait for ambulance after wife fell and in severe agony. Difficult journey to hospital due to heavy traffic. Had to wait for a bed which was able to be used for xrays. A&E staff were quite friendly but it was very busy due to the run up to Christmas. Spent over 5 hours in A&E before being transferred to AUU. Wife had nothing to eat since dinner time and we were constantly told nothing to drink until assessment, which turned out to be a broken pelvis. Next night transferred to Gade ward late at night again. Why always transferring patients late at night between wards? Ward was busy. Too many staff and cleaners who you can see are struggling to always understand what you say or want. Some staff were idol and some very patronising. Sister wasted physio time by not giving pain medication when told to and they had to go away. Staff nurse and matron involved in this lack of care and even though the Sister had been given clear instructions in front of everyone still ignored it. Matron then had to take her out to talk to her about it. Not good enough treatment of patient from a nurse. Nurses were rough in handling wife when changing bed linen, mainly the night staff. Patient file constantly going missing due to staff taking it away from the bed to fill it in. The file never used to leave your bedside years ago so why does it have to now. One nurse tried to give my wife some of her usual medication two days running but she was only to take it once a week. Again staff not knowing what they are doing or understanding. Staff 2 nights running even borrowed some of my wifes own medication because they had run out for other patients at night. The food issued to patients was disgusting and i would not have even fed it to my dogs. The fish was brown inside instead of white and the salad was all lettuce and a quarter tomato. Food appeared to be in containers for a long time. Eventually got the wife transferred to our own local hospital but again iy took a lot of organising with some staff laughing at us or being very patronising when we asked why it was taking so long. They did actually want me originally to take her home in our own car, the ambulance eventually took 6 hours to get her to our local hospital. The ambulance men were very nice and helpful even though they had nothing but a nappy for my wife to go to the toilet in. This was unacceptable and shows the lack of thought put in to her being transferred to a hospital a long way away, and they wanted me to bring her home on my own in our car for 6 hours and her with a broken pelvis. Hospital does appear to be in need of a lot of repairs although Gade ward was kept clean. The hospital restaurant is disgraceful and during the several days i visited it the tables were always dirty and did not find one that had been wiped clean. Poor hospital overall.
