"Slow assessment at QMC cardiology"

About: Nottingham NHS Treatment Centre(Nations Healthcare) Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Cardiology

(as a relative),

My father-in-law has been seen firstly in cardiology at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham and now this service has transferred to the Nations Treatment centre on the hospital site.

He was seen repeatedly in the outpatients dept and for tests (some of which had to be repeated) which he was told were inconclusive and had treatments which were unlikely to be effective (according to my research).

Finally after 2 years he was diagnosed and told there is no curative treament available. The consultant has not discharged him - he is going to follow him up in outpatients 'in case new treatments become available'.

Neither has he referred him on to the community based specialist nursing service for symptom control and life style advice. I would hate to see other elderly patients be put through this - he needed an efficient care pathway - this was wasteful.

When I formally complained to the trust I received a long letter full of clinical terminology & the consultant told my father-in-law that I was misinformed & made my father-in-law feel very uncomfortable - I have dared not complain subsequently.
