"Excellent from my point of view"

About: Wycombe Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

After a night of nagging chest pain my local GP arranged a visit to the CSRU at Wycombe. There was another likely reason for the ache (which was why I went by car) but I am more than happy that everyone decided to err on the side of caution.

I have one, hopefully constructive, nit-picking comment on the visit indicated below but first let me say that my experience was entirely pleasant and robust. The nurses and doctors were informative, pleasant and good humoured. The whole operation was conducted efficiently and professionally and I left with an overall impression of competence.

I hope you will convey my thanks to the staff concerned who could have easily seen me as low risk and kept me waiting far longer.

One very minor point: Having entered the dept corridor I found no Reception or directions as to where to go. (I accept that not many people walk in). I did not wish to venture down the corridor past treatment rooms and so waited. Imagine my thoughts, I was expecting a four hour wait before even being seen and it appeared I was being ignored. May I suggest a sign as to where to report or wait as appropriate. This might also be useful to staff who would recognise I was not just a visiting relative.

As it happened it was only a few minutes before a nurse came in from outside whom already knew my name and ushered me into a treatment room and the diagnosis process began immediately. This by it’s very nature took a certain amount of time but I never felt neglected and eventually I was released with a comprehensive letter to my GP and new prescription after two and a half hours - three hours if you include the GP visit. Excellent from my point of view.
