"Crohns disease"

About: Queen's Medical Centre

I couldn't fault the staff for a single thing! I was diagnosed in 2012 at age 13 with Crohns Disease and was immediately placed under the care of a peadiatric gastroenterologist after we requested a transfer from Derby due to insufficient care. I couldn't thank my consultant enough for the help he has continuously provided. He would only be a phone call away if i was having another flare up. Either requesting to see me the next day or if it was so bad admitting me on to the ward D33 to get down to the bottom of my flare up and to make sure i was given the sufficient care to get be back on track. At the beginning of 2014 i had a major flare and began to get problems with my urinary works. My flare up was a hard one to tackle, but the consultant never gave up, he was trying as many different treatments as he could...finally, in the beginning of October i had hit an all time low, my crohns had come back with an aggression and the urinary works were excruciatingly painful. He admitted me into hospital the day we rang him. After 2 weeks of hospital it was decided my only treatment that would work would be surgery. After this decision, i became a patient of a peadiatric surgeon. Without his help i wouldn't feel as good as i feel today, which is the first time in 2 almost 3 years. My operation was quite a major operation and required the knowledge of several different surgical teams, but the consultant always asked others he trusted if he wasn't sure. I really couldn't thank the staff enough at Qmc...their help has been extraordinary.

Thank you for all your great feedback about the consultant you have been seeing in paediatric gastroenterology, and the surgeon you also saw. It is really wonderful to read how they have been able to help you over the years since you were diagnosed. We will share your message of thanks with the team, and if you know the names of the individual staff members and would like us to pass your comment on to them personally, you can get in touch with us at nuhcommunications@nuh.nhs.uk.
